Spring's Arrival at Hortulus Farms
Fun fact - my first ever “job” was at a greenhouse.
It was a family owned and operated greenhouse that specialized in exotic and rare houseplants. I learned so much in the 4 or so high school years that I worked there, mostly weekends. My gardening lexicon expanded, and I fell in love with the smell of dirt. I learned how to care for plants, and soon cultivated a fondness for some of my favorites. There’s something so simple, so earthily simple, about spending time in the warmth of a green house. It’s quite literally a place where roots are grown, where seasons dwell, and where blossoms bloom. If anything it is a nice place to appreciate a quiet moment to think about these things.
Now that spring has officially arrived, I can’t think of a better place to spend some soul-nourishing moments than Hortulus Farms. They have already proven they know how to do Christmas, but man do they know how to welcome in spring. I do have to say, they aren’t the nursery I grew up working in. There’s something about this place that quietly beckons to those who wish to explore, to find something curated, to arrive somewhere different.
Just picture this: in every corner, a splattering of cheerful English daisies; soft folksy music is playing; aged terra cotta pots play house for topiaries and trees of all shapes and sizes. Vintage furniture is layered throughout the greenhouse, serving as both a display and a resting place for all sorts of heirloom-quality books, gardening tools, and flickering candles. Not a detail is unnoticed, and it’s the perfect place to come to appreciate all of spring’s delights. The handmade treasures woven throughout the nursery are equally as delightful. What can I say? There’s an energy at Hortulus this spring that is impossible to resist.
I am thrilled to usher in this new season in such an abundantly joyful haven. If you have not yet been to Hortulus Farms, it is truly a sight to behold. Add their Grand Reopening to your April calendar for your own personal spring renewal - if you’re like me, you’ll find it to not only to be a meditative visit, but a renewal. I can’t think of a more genuine way to acknowledge the arrival of spring.
