Breezy Beach Blues
This trip to the Outer Banks was one of many firsts! For us, it was our first long-distance family trip (over 7+ hours in the car each way). So, we basically packed our bags and then some because we needed to bring pretty much everything baby-related for baby G! Oh, and Rosie came too 🤠It was quite an undertaking, and maybe we went into it a little blind to how overwhelming it would be.
So, needless to say, it was a trip and not a vacation…we kept having to repeat that little saying to ourselves every time duty called. At many points I needed to remind myself that these days, beach days looked very different. Through the week, though, we shared a few indulgences, including a dinner just S and I at Mahi Mahi which was a real treat. But by far the biggest treat was having our portraits done, for the first time as a family on vacation!
Back in the winter I found Courtney on Instagram (@littlefinphoto) and was so taken with her bright, breezy, timeless, beachy style of photography. I knew I had to book her for a family photo session with 7 month old baby G! I am so glad I did, because otherwise we didn’t have a lot of other high-quality photos of ourselves from this milestone trip. Our portrait session was short and sweet. We managed to squeeze in 20 or 30 minutes of pictures as our backdrop, the sky, darkened quickly and ominously. She was a dream with baby G, too! You can barely tell by the pictures that we were trying to beat the black clouds and rain. It was a good thing that I had Courtney take our pictures because I really didn’t get the chance to take my own camera out all that often.
And isn’t it a good thing we did?! Because I am already cherishing these photos. They mark a sweet, simple, chaotic, messy and delightful little chapter in our lives. Life will never be the same as it is in this moment!
