It is June, it is June! Yipee! I promised myself that this month, I would be ultra-present and conscious of my intentions. It is already HALFWAY through the year. How? HOW!? I wanted to mark the beginning of the month, and half-way point of 2019, by doing another currently post. I haven’t done one of these in a while. Just to share some thoughts, favorites, and feelings as of late. So, here we go!
best part of the weekend: I have been obsessing over the fact that it is peony season. All of the peonies seemed to pop this weekend in our neighborhood. As you may know, I am just starting in the garden department…and don’t have any shrubs of my own that I’ve grown and picked out. Our previous neighbors left behind some nice rhododendrons and azaleas, but I’d love to grow a bunch of roses and peonies in my own time. So, I must have been talking a lot about peonies…because my mom and dad surprised me with my very own peony bush. It is beautiful, and just bloomed today! It is an Itoh peony (only $30 from Costco - I’m getting more tomorrow!). Honestly just looking at it makes me gush with happiness. It was such a sweet gesture for my parents to surprise me with this beautiful gift.
beauty favorite of the moment: I am really not finding anything new that I’ve fallen in love with, but concealer has been my best friend as of late. My go-to for years has been Blur by Loreal.
favorite color to wear right now: I always feel a bit conspicuous wearing this, but mustard yellow is a color I am really digging right now. That, and rust!
brewing: Baby’s Coffee from Key West, FL! I made it in my Chemex this morning. I love that stuff.
reading: I feel like I am cheating; I am in the groove with Audible. Some of my most recent favorites have been The Only Woman in the Room and Where the Crawdads Sing. But right now I am in the middle of the Harry Potter series, re-listening to Jim Dale’s performance of The Goblet of Fire (the book is so much better than the movie). My next book will be this one, by one of my favorite authors, John Meacham.
sick of: living in construction! Don’t get me wrong, I am so thankful that we are getting the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to renovate our 1965 home. It is so fun to choose the design details and picture interiors in my head. But the dust, the constant vaccuming, and work-filled weekends for S…ugh!
wishing i could wear a lot of: Athleta pants! My goodness, these pants are a game-changer. I wear them to work, and I could imagine wearing them on a plane or even to a formal event. They are from Athleta’s travel collection, and so comfortable.
watching: S and I are in the middle of the Chernobyl series on HBO. It is fascinating and terrifying. And it has been quite eye-opening. As a history teacher I’ve been familiar with the historical context of the Cherobyl disaster, but I have never fully been exposed to the the social and political context of it. This show brings a sobering sense of hopelessness and urgency to it, and it is relevant as ever. And on a gushier note, I love Stellan Skarsgård!
ciao! xo
