DIY Holiday Hurricane Lamp

The time after Halloween, before Thanksgiving and (way) before Christmas is always a nebulous, vague time when it comes to seasonal decor. In some camps, it is not only appropriate but about damn TIME to put up the Christmas tree! Others would be aghast at that idea. I am always kind of stuck in the middle. Do I stick with moody autumnal hues and pumpkins from October into Thanksgiving? Or do I jump into deep tartans and twinkly lights to herald the holiday season?

Lately, I am finding myself over the last few years leaning toward Christmas-y stuff even prior to Thanksgiving. Let’s be real, I have already checked the radio to see if they are playing Christmas tunes yet, and I have a Christmas countdown going. While I do not have my tree up, and all of my Christmas reds and greens are still nestled in boxes downstairs, I am itching for some holiday decor.

I thought this might be a good time to show a little DIY that can perhaps work on a Thanksgiving OR Christmas tablescape. This DIY hurricane lamp is a combo of all of my favorites - natural elements, simple assembly, and of course, a transitional style that could work anytime after October 1st and before Dec 25th, in my humble opinion. :) This hurricane lamp has a slightly raised candle platform so I thought it would be nice to do a floating cranberry and greens filler. The cranberries were less than $2 and the greens are free because I trimmed them from some trees in my backyard! The whole thing took about 20 seconds to throw together!

How do you like it? Nothing like a simple tried-and-true combo of naturals and seasonal colors for a nice change! I hope you give it a try! Below are some memories from Christmases and Thanksgivings past. I am so excited for this year, especially as baby G approaches her 1st birthday! We will be making so many more new sweet memories and traditions. Can’t wait for it all to unfold.
